The Latin Queen of Soul Says, "Call Me M"

Hi fans

As many of you now know, the Latin Queen of Soul has officially ceased performing as Peaches. On February 13, 2010, I did my last performance with Peaches and Herb at KLUC's 4th Annual Valentine's Love Affair, Orleans Arena, Las Vegas. We headlined with Heatwave, Evelyn Champagne King, Blue Magic, and many others.

It's now in the history books - no more singing “Reunited,” “Shake Your Groove Thing,” or “I Pledge Your Love." It's a wrap! So what now?

For starters, you can stop calling me Peaches and call me by true name, Meritxell. A brief history on my name. Pronounced, "mu-ree-chel" its origin is Catalan deriving from a village in Andorra, which has a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary. If you can't pronounce, "Meritxell", simply call me "M."

What's the 411? I just completed a cute jingle for my friends at Debt Free League but I have a lot of big exciting things cooking. If you want more 411, you'll have to continue reading my blog...

I also want to thank my hero, Barak Obama for opening many doors. Right around the time he became the 1st black President, America also embraced a girl from Barcelona Spain, as the 1st non-African American Peaches. Now you can hear me co-recording Peaches & Herb's latest CD of the past 23-years, "Colors of Love." Go cop a copy. And if you're a real Meritxell Negre fan, you need to get Latin Queen of Soul's CD, The Meritxell Project/El Proyecto Meritxell

In closing, don't forget to tune into my blog. Also visit new website: www.LatinQueenofSoul.com/ for my latest music, photos, and videos.

Love,
M

Hi M,

I've been a loyal fan quite some time now. I was following your old "the new peaches" blog and I'm so happy you started this new blog now that you're no longer with Peaches & Herb. I'll make sure to continue coming back for more scuttlebutt on the "Latin Queen of Soul"

Meritxell Latin Queen of Soul

What can be said that hasn't already been said about the Phenom known as "Meritxell". This is one of the most Consistently on Fire Vocalists of a Our Generation!! This young lady not only exudes stunning beauty and Major Sensuality, her Vocals command your attention. With a heart of a lion and the Voice of an Angel, it's Amazing to me she hasn't Exploded already as a Household name. In the Tradition of Chaka Kahn, Aretha Franklin, and Jill Scott one can only agree that Meritxell is destined for Amazing Musical Moments. No matter if you see her in an Intimate 75 seat bistro or a Huge outdoor Festival, Meritxell always gives a 110% performance. She leaves it all on that stage, to share with her beloved Audience. If you haven't had the distinct honor and or priviledge of seeing her live, you owe it to yourself to experience"the Meritxell Experience"..............mTe(MikeTonyEchols) MTE Productions

You haven’t heard Meritxell yet? OK, this week- TO DO: LISTEN TO MERITXELL NEGRE, Latin Queen Of Soul.

I have heard her many, many times; she has a soaring, pure, and beautiful voice; perfectly balanced, sultry, and sexy. Buy her music, and you will wonder why you listen to the "pitch-corrected" vocals of so many others.

When she performs, her vocals awaken your senses to what a fabulous vocal performance should be. After hearing Meritxell, you will begin to question why you bought all those processed, overdubbed, uninteresting vocalists-listening to Meritxell makes you realize that you have been missing what the music is all about- pure, beautiful, sound.

Few vocalists can match her range, and no one can match her interpretation of the music. I have heard her perform many styles of music, including jazz, rap, hip-hop, show, rock, neo-soul, soul, Latin, and more than I can think of. Meritxell does each genre better than the people who are icons of the genre.

Her Latin Queen Of Soul title is the perfect appellation- Latin, yes, THE Queen-YES! Soulful? Oh yes! She, being humble, missed something- (and I am a straight woman) she is just beautiful, and watching her is a sensual joy for any music lover.

Her time with Peaches and Herb was interesting. As the new 'Peaches' of Peaches and Herb, Meritxell's talent and beauty brought a huge amount of interest and publicity to a tired 70's-based music machine, the 'Herb' franchise. This group, run by the family of Herb Fame, concentrates on the career of 'Herb' rather than 'Peaches" The usual formula of the Herb Fame crew is to rotate female performers in and out depending on the needs of the moment, controlling the purse strings, and replacing what they consider 'disposable' talent as they try to keep up with the new times. When Meritxell became the sixth 'Peaches", those who saw her realized that Meritxell was the star- and her talent, and her amazing Latin medley, performed during the Peaches and Herb shows, brought down the house. Meritxell, who was lauded far and wide for her talent as 'Peaches', recently graciously departed from Peaches and Herb, as many people were asking her to perform as a solo artist that she had to pursue a solo career.
If you like music, hear her. Lovely, captivating, beautiful. And really, really, nice.

To those of you who saw her, I need to say no more. If you have yet to hear (and, frankly, see her, she's gorgeous) Well, what are you waiting for, silly?

"Sista, Sista" definitely personalizes Meritxelle's message of strenth to all women as she features her R&B range, and her versatility shows throughout the CD with Latino, Brasilian, disco, and even house chops! One of my favorites marks our connection to Spain in "Vuelvo Al Mediterraneo", but all of her compositions exude unquestionable professionalism, great taste, and musical uniqueness. You go sista! ~ Sonya Vallet
